Did you see the editorial letter that the Tribune received about you?

A Gothic complaint

I've become accustomed to exploitational and sensational media in New Mexico, but the stereotyping engaged in the article ("James," Tribune, Feb. 6) in which you follow young James Roach to a local club for Goth Night is a bit much.

I don't know when living "the Goth lifestyle" - not that your reporter seemed to make any effort into broadening the readers' understanding of that term - became a diagnosis, but I assure you the term "Goth" is not listed in the DSM-IV as a mental disorder.

The "Gothic lifestyle" can arguably be defined a subculture, and while it might be scary or intimidating to some, I've generally found more tolerance in the "Goth" subculture than I have in many others. . . .

Roach is, indeed, the exception to the rule, and most of the people at Euphoria and Insomnia are balanced, friendly people whose only apparent shortcoming is giving The Tribune another occasion to engage in its usual disservice to the community of Albuquerque. Perhaps Roach finds the Goth community endearing because of the general lack of judgment within it. . . .
