Random bits of wisdom.... sorta.

Thou shalt remember the Eleventh Commandment and keep it Wholly.

Darling, a true lady takes off her dignity with her clothes and does her whorish best. At other times you can be as dignified as your persona requires.

Masturbation is cheap, clean, convenient, and free of any possibility of disease -- and you don't have to go home in the cold. But it's lonely.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a home, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight eficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

Anyone who cannot cope with mathematics is not fully human. At best, he is a tolerable subhuman who has learned to wear shoes, bathe, and not makes messes in the house.

You live and you learn, or you don't live long.

Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.

Never frighten a little man. He'll kill you.

Natural laws have no pity.

Waking someone unnecessarily should be considered a capital crime. For a first offense that is.

"I came, I saw, She conquered." (The original Latin seems to have been garbled.)

A committee is a life form with six legs and no brain.

-Robert A. Heinlein, Time Enough For Love

I just felt that you all could benefit from some of these... even if only for a laugh.

I would comment in response that they aren't in context in the book that I copied them out of... they're simply a list a quotes. ;)

Actually... I'm holding the book "Time Enough For Love" right now. I copied all of those out of it yesterday myself... It wasn't a cut and paste job. They're all in this book, and they're all attributed to his character Lazarus Long

bah. laz may be attributed with those quotes, but maureen (his mother) and maureen's father actually said most of them. in a different book...

whereas time enough for love is 14 years older than sail, so technically they could be attributed to that particular novel, i find that i consider them, for the most part, to be from sail because they are that much more in context. for example:
what's the eleventh commandment?'

'Don't get caught.'

--To Sail beyond the Sunset

see, the eleventh commandment makes a good bit more sense when you realize that its a very simple commandment: when doing something that is socially unacceptable, don't get caught. before that is a long conversation between maureen and her father (ira) about mo' losing her virginity.

your right in attributing them to time enough... i just think of them as coming from a different source, because sail is one of those books that i know waaay too well.

If my memory serves, anyway.

For note, I did copy all of these directly from the book that I was holding in my hand... ;)
